LEARN THE SKILLS

At Long Island Swimming, we know what great swimming looks like.  In our competitive program we teach it every day.  We use the best age appropriate methods to teach the keys to success.  Our logical progression gives your child more than just the ability to stay up.  We teach skills in kick, pull, body position, and breath control that allow children to move efficiently in the water, and truly become lifelong swimmers!

SETTING & ACHIEVING GOALS

The success of the Long Island Swim School program is based on our proven organizational method.  This proven process allows us to accommodate a wide variety of abilities and efficiently move students between lanes or levels as they are ready.  Each of our levels has a specific set of skill goals for children to work towards.  From using fast little kicks, to big open swings, each of these skills encourage proper technique across the four competitive strokes.  When a child demonstrates the skills consistently, correctly, and independently, the instructor moves on to the next set of skills in the series.  Students are encouraged to work towards these goals as part of each lesson.  When they advance from one lane or level to the next, it represents accomplishment for everyone!

BEGINNER TO OLYMPIAN

Long Island Swim School is the only learn to swim program in our area that teaches children to swim the same way Olympians do.  Every basic skill we teach, from blowing bubbles & running to the timing of butterfly, is the foundation of a larger more intricate whole stroke.  Our instructors break this down in a way that is both manageable and achievable for every young swimmer given the right amount of practice.   The consistency of this approach mimics the training and dedication of the best, and that’s how we get the best results.

sWIM TOGETHER

Learning to swim is fun, but learning to swim with friends is even better!  Our small class sizes enable instructors to work with swimmers as individuals within a group environment.  Whether it is attempting a new skill, racing to finish first, or make the biggest splash, positive peer to peer interactions help motivate and encourage swimmers to achieve more!

SERIES SWIMMING

Learning to swim is a process.  As part of that process, students will practice each skill in a series, starting with body position, kick, pull, and breathing.  Our instructors challenge swimmers to learn new skills as they are ready.   As the child develops mastery the skills are combined, first one or two at a time, and  eventually the child learns and practices the whole stroke.

MUSCLE MEMORY REQUIRES REPETITION

Picture
Have you ever gone on vacation and watched with astonishment as your child grew in confidence and ability in the water?  On day one your child was sitting on the stairs and by day four diving for toys in the deep end… The difference between your child’s first day at the pool and last was measurable.  Ever wonder why that is? The answer is simple – frequency.  When learning new skills novice swimmers need frequency.

When your child spends even just a few consecutive days splashing around in the pool, not only are they building confidence, they are building muscle memory. Muscle memory is an important component in swimming.  In the pool the difference between “think” and “react” can mean the difference between sink and swim.   When your child builds muscle memory in the pool, skills that your swimmer once spent time processing become automatic, and swimming becomes easy!
At Long Island Swim School our instructors are committed to giving your child the feedback they need to succeed in learning new skills at every lesson.  More frequent lessons mean more feedback and more opportunities to practice skills improving muscle memory.  Our goal is to get your child swimming correctly without even having to think about it!
